I had to replace the compressor inlet flange on a Z1 675 turbo. Originally there was only a RTV between the compressor housing and the inlet flange. When I reassemble should I make a gasket out of generic gasket material and use RTV or just use RTV?
Back ground of the replacement flange. My brother bought Z1's 525 turbos 6 years ago. They sent him a hybrid of the 525 exhaust and chra and the 675 turbo compressor side. My brother tried to bolt the turbos up, but quickly realized that they had not sent him what he ordered because the oil return tubes would not fit and the pipe that bolts to the compressor outlet would not bolt up. He called them and they talked him into keeping them and so he modified them to work. Fast forward to a year ago. I started reassmbling his engine after being apart for for 4+ years. Along the way the compressor inlet flange was bent causing it to not seal correctly. I contacted Z1 and they would not sell me a replacement flange and they went as far to say they never sold those turbos to my brother. This pissed me off because I know he bought the turbos from them. My brother could not not find his receipt and Z1 doesn't have record of it either because they supposedly changed computer systems 5 years ago. Sorry for the long background story I have just been trying to get his car out of my garage for the last year and have ran into so many problems. Here are a few pictures of his turbo and a picture of the flange that Z1 used to put on the front of their 675 kit.
